Shona Culture

The Shona people are one of the largest ethnic groups in Zimbabwe and make up around 80% of the population. The Shona culture is known for its rich history and traditions, which include a variety of customs, beliefs, and practices.

One of the most important aspects of Shona culture is the traditional religion, which is based on ancestor worship and the belief in a supreme being known as Mwari. The Shona people also have a strong tradition of storytelling, music, and dance, which is often used to communicate historical events, cultural values, and social commentary.

Art is also an important aspect of the Shona culture, particularly stone sculpture and pottery. The Shona people are known for their intricate stone carvings, which depict traditional designs and motifs, as well as scenes from everyday life. Pottery is also a traditional craft, with many potters using traditional methods to create a variety of functional and decorative pieces.

The Shona people also have a strong tradition of community and family values, with extended families living together and sharing responsibilities. The elderly are respected and hold a special place in the community. Many customs and practices are passed down through generations, and are still observed today, such as the traditional customs of marriage, birth and death.

It's worth noting that Zimbabwe has over 80 ethnic groups, each with their own culture, customs and language, the Shona are just one of them.
