Meet the magnificent Elands

This is the largest species of African antelope known for their impressive size with individuals weighing up to 2,200 lbs. With a shaggy coat ranging from reddish-brown to gray and long spiral horns in males, Elands are truly remarkable. As herbivores, they feed on grasses and leaves of shrubs and trees while residing in herds and being active during the day. Don't let their size fool you, Elands are known for their speed and agility, capable of reaching speeds up to 80 km/h when faced with predators.

Elands are herbivores and primarily feed on grasses, leaves, and shoots. They are selective feeders and prefer young, nutritious plants. In the dry season, they may also browse on the bark and branches of trees and shrubs. Elands are able to extract moisture from their food and can go without drinking water for several days.
